Red Must Die
Taka
is at his house. He goes to the kitchen and makes tea. He puts the
envelope on the table. He sits down. He drinks his tea. Then he looks
at the envelope. The envelope is big. He opens the envelope and
finds...
Money!
A lot of money. Taka is very happy. Then he sees the paper. There is
no writing, only a red circle.
"What
is this?" he thinks. Taka goes to the telephone and calls Masa.
'Hello
Masa?' asks Taka.
'You
opened the envelope?' answers Masa.
'Yes,'
replies Taka.
'Oh.
We can not speak on the phone. Let's meet at the bar in twenty
minutes.' Masa answers.
'OK,
bye.' Taka replies.
There
were many people in the bar. Lots of young women. But Taka`s eyes were
on the door, looking for Masa. First he saw the black jacket and black
shirt. Then he saw the face. It was Masa.
'Everything OK, Taka?' Masa asks.
'Yes
very good. Thank you for your help.' Taka answers.
'That
is OK. That is what friends are for,' replies Masa.
'But
there was paper with a red circle. What is that?' asks Taka.
Masa`s
face goes cold. 'A red circle you say.'
'Yes.'
Taka can see Masa`s face and he feels that something is wrong. 'What
is it, Masa?' he asks.
'There
was a lot of money in the envelope, yes?' asks Masa.
'Yes.
There was. The Oyabun was very kind,' says Taka.
'Nothing is for nothing. You have work to do, Taka.' Masa says sadly.
'I
know. What must I do?' asks Taka.
'Red
is the colour of the dead. You are going to kill a man.' Masa answers.
'My
first day! Oyabun wants me to kill!' Taka shouts.
'Do
not shout. We can not talk here. But you must do what Oyabun says.'
Masa replies as he quickly finishes his beer and walks out of the bar.
