The Men In Black
The
men are meeting at the train station.
'You
are on time,' says Masa 'That is good. The streets have eyes. They see
everything.'
'I
see.' Taka answers, but he does not see.
'Let's
go,' says Masa.
They
walk away from the street in front of the train station. They walk
into the small streets. The shops are small and close. The light of
the station turns to the dark of the streets.
'We
are here,' says Masa as they walk to a flower shop.
'Flowers! You got me a job selling flowers?' Taka shouts.
Masa
laughs and says 'No. You are not going to be selling flowers. But you
are going to work for a man who does sell flowers.'
'I
don't understand,' says Taka.
'I
know. Now this is important. Listen and learn. No questions in there.
OK?' says Masa.
'OK,'
replies Taka.
It is
a flower shop, but Taka can feel it is not a flower shop. The doors
are closed. The front is dark with black windows. This shop does not
say "Come in." This shop says "Go away."
Masa
goes to the door. A man dressed in black opens it. He lets them in. It
is dark in the flower shop. Taka can smell the flowers, but he can see
nothing. Then there is light. There are now three men wearing black.
They are waiting for Masa and Taka. Two of the men are young. One of
the men is old. The old man is the boss. He is called Oyabun.
The
young men feel Taka`s shirt and trousers. They feel his jacket too.
They are looking for a gun.
'He is
OK, Oyabun,' says a young man in black to the old boss.
'Good,' says Oyabun turning to Masa. 'Hello Masa. How are you?'
'I am
well Oyabun and you?' Masa replies.
'I am
good. Getting old, but good,' answers Oyabun. 'You have brought me a
new man.'
'Yes,
Oyabun. He is an old friend. I love him like a brother,' replies Masa.
'I
see, but can he die for you? Can you die for him?' asks Oyabun.
'Yes,
Oyabun.' Masa answers.
'OK.
Then that is it,' replies Oyabun. 'What is your name young man.'
Oyabun asks Taka.
'My
name is Taka,' he replies.
'OK
Taka. You can work for me. But I am going to ask you to do many jobs.
Do them all and do them all well. Make me happy Taka.' Oyabun says.
'Yes
Oyabun.' Taka replies.
'That
is good to hear. But when I am sad, you are going to be sad. When I am
happy, you are going to be happy. Do you understand?' asks Oyabun.
'Yes,'
answers Taka.
'OK.
Goodbye. Masa is going to tell you when you are needed. Here, this is
for you.' Oyabun hands Taka an envelope. Taka takes it.
'Thank
you Oyabun.' Taka does not open it. A man in black opens the flower
shop door and they walk out. Masa closes the door and they walk back
to the light of the station.
'What
is in the envelope Masa?' Taka asks.
'I
don't know. Oyabun gave it to you. Wait and open it when you get to
your house. You did well tonight,' says Masa.
