About UsJamaby was created because we saw a niche. Students have access to the internet, but can they read and enjoy English there? Jamaby will try and bring interesting readable stories to the second language reader. Computers provide new ways of doing things. For example, at Jamaby, students can read and listen for free. However, they or their school can also buy print on demand paperback books of the stories they like. Innovation is the key to the internet and so it will be with Jamaby. There is lots more to come! How Do We Do It? We use software that undertakes the task. Essentially, using our algorithms we assess the English level of every story coming from the selected RSS Feeds. Our main assessment is based upon cross referencing the words in the stories against our own Jamaby word list. If a match is excellent and a very high percentage of the words in a given story are on Jamaby`s word list, then the story is considered to be level 3 Mid-Intermediate. Our software is configured to make further judgments on what constitutes level 4 Upper Intermediate and level 5 Advanced. Furthermore, if a story is assessed as being outside of our parameters, then it is not placed on our website at all. Level 1 and 2 stories are actually graded stories rather than assessed Native English. Generally speaking, a level 1 English story is a 400 headword Beginner to Elementary story.
